This year’s must-have Christmas decoration according to Google search data – revealed

  • Christmas lights are the most in – demand Christmas decoration with 67,000 Google searches per month in the UK on average.
  • Christmas garlands in second place, while baubles are third.

Ahead of this year’s festivities, Christmas lights have been revealed as the most popular Christmas decorations.

New research from creative resource Design Bundles revealed the most searched for Christmas decorations in preparation for the festive holiday. The study analysed Google search data from the past 12 months to discover how many times popular Christmas decorations have been searched in the UK.

The data revealed that Christmas lights are the most searched for decoration this year, with 67,000 Google searches per month on average in the UK over the last year. The popular Christmas decoration is sold online and in stores across the UK.

The second most searched for Christmas decoration in preparation for the festive holiday are Christmas garlands, with 52,000 Google searches. Baubles are ranked third with an average of 35,000 searches.

Mistletoe is the fourth most searched for Christmas decoration the plant is a symbol of love, associated with Christmas due to the belief it brings good luck and protection.

Candy canes aren’t just sweet treats, they are also used as decorations and have received an estimated 22,000 Google searches. In joint fifth and sixth place receiving the same amount of Google searches are Christmas tree skirts and tinsel.

Wreaths are ranked eighth with 15,000 Google searches and have become increasingly popular as DIY projects for aspiring Christmas crafters.

Window decorations and table decorations are in joint ninth and the tenth most searched for decorations in preparation for Christmas with 13,000 Google searches.

A spokesperson for Design Bundles commented: “With Christmas approaching it’s a time when people can really enjoy the festivities and get creative with their decorations. The results show us that even though it’s getting darker outside, Brits see Christmas as a festival of lights, and traditional decorations such as garlands and baubles. It looks like people are looking forward to making the most of this year’s festivities after last year’s relatively muted celebrations.”

The study was conducted by Design Bundles, which offers high-quality premium design resources and a marketplace that allows graphic designers to register and sell their products.
